Circulation services are located on the first floor of the East Campus Library at the Information Desk.
Checking out books
Books are checked out by JMU students, faculty, and staff using their University ID (JAC). The public is welcome to use the ECL's resources, but must meet established criteria before checking out books.
Returning Books
All library materials may be returned to any JMU Library location during operating hours. Books and media from any JMU Library may also be returned at any time via the drive-up book depository near East Campus Library, located on Alumni Drive. When the Libraries are closed, books may also be returned via Carrier Library's outside depository located near the end of the building to the left of the glass entrance.
Renewing Books
Books may be renewed by accessing "My LEO", by e-mail to east-campus-library@jmu.edu, by calling 568-2731 during open hours, or by bringing proper identification to the Information Desk.
Requesting / Holding Books
Books currently checked-out may be requested by another borrower who has proper identification. Place "hold requests" through LEO or at the Information Desk.
Recalling Books
East Campus Library may request books be returned after a minimum usage of 3 weeks, or immediately if needed for Course Reserves. Borrower will be notified by email of new due date. Fines begin accruing on the 4th day after the new due date.
Fine Policy
Borrowers are given 3 days past the due date to return books without paying fines. On the 4th day overdue, fines are assessed at $1.00 per book. Each additional day overdue is $.25 per book.
Lost Books
Replacement and processing fees are charged for books declared lost by the borrower, or not returned within 40 days after the due date.

Current and Bound Periodicals
Current Periodicals and Bound Journals (1980 and after) are located on the second floor. All patrons may use periodicals in the library. Periodicals may be checked out by Doctoral Students, Faculty, and Staff for a limited time period.
Journals and Other Items in Storage
Requests to retrieve pre-1980 bound journals, or other items, from "Storage" may be made online (click here for form), or in person at Carrier Library's Circulation desk. These items are retrieved hourly between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. weekdays with more limited hours on weekends.
My LEO
The "My LEO" function on LEO allows you to see the due dates of items you have checked out, see hold requests and fines owed, renew items, and modify your PIN (personal identification number). |
