About the Service and Collections

A Federal Depository Library Since 1973
Carrier Library has been named by the U.S. Senate as a selective depository of federal publications since 1973 and an official depository of Virginia state documents since 1978. The collection contains over half a million pieces and a growing number of electronic sources. These publications come from every area of government: education, agriculture, military, commerce, environment, justice, legislation, technology, energy and many more. Carrier Library's government documents may be located by using the LEO library catalog. The Government Information Research Guide provides links to government documents on the web.
Location Carrier Library is located on the west side of campus next to Burruss Hall, close to the intersection of Grace Street and Mason Street. If you are driving into campus you should stop at Parking Services to obtain a visitor parking permit. Parking Services is located in the Parking Deck on Bluestone Drive which is accessible from the Port Road entrance to the University.
The Government Documents collection may be used during Library Hours when the library is open. Professional assistance is available at times the Reference Desk is open. Call (540) 568-6267 for assistance.
Almost all government documents may may be borrowed by JMU faculty, staff, and students. Those affiliated with Blue Ridge Community College, Bridgewater College, or EMU may also borrow documents. Cardholders with the Rockingham Public Library can check out government publications as well. If you are not in one of these groups you are invited to use these publications within the library. Copying facilities are located in the library for your convenience.
