General policy on purchase requests for the media center collection
The JMU community may make suggestions for video and other nonprint titles to be added to the Media Center collection, through the Patron Request Form.
While the department has funding available to consider your request, our first spending priority is on program materials that will support instructional and other academic uses. For example, Media Resources may purchase an entertainment television series for its collections, such as The West Wing, that has value (and past use) in teaching and understanding the internal dynamics of the American political system. But we cannot respond to all requests for all television series, even if they are the most popular of the day. Purchases for our media collection always favor potential or proven academic use, unlike those available in public libraries.
Thanks for keeping this policy in mind when you make your request. We look forward to hearing from you!
