Several of the library’s research databases now offer mobile apps and sites! We list them here for your convenience. Currently, we do not provide technical support for these apps due to the wide variety of mobile devices. However, we do welcome your general feedback, questions, or comments!

AccessMyLibrary College Edition (Gale)

Access JMU's subscription databases and ebooks from Gale with this free app. Install the app, then select Virginia from a list of states and choose James Madison University from a list of schools. Provide your JMU email address to receive a password and complete the login. No further logins will be required until next school year. Once logged in, click on "Update My Library" to get a list of resources you are able to use.
ARTstor Mobile allows you to search, browse, view images, and access saved image groups. If you are on campus and using JMU Official Wireless, no registration is required. If you are not connected to JMU Official Wireless, you will need to login in with your ARTstor account to access ARTstor Mobile. Not registered for an account? Go to ARTstor on your computer while on campus or authenticated to off campus access and sign up for a free user account. Click here for more details on the ARTstor mobile help page.
British Library 19th Century Collection
(iPad only)
Install this free app to access books from the British Library's 19th Century collection. Content includes classic novels and works of philosphy, history, and science. Book images are available in color and range from maps to marbled papers and embossed covers.
JSTOR has been redesigned and now recognizes mobile devices. Simply go to www.jstor.org on your device to begin searching for articles. Must be connected to JMU Official Wireless or authenticated from off campus.
Ad Age Latest News app provides free access to news articles on Advertising Age. Free; no login required.
General Information / Reference
Access how-to tutorials on various technologies, systems, and software with this free iPad app. Please note: must be connected to JMU official wireless or authenticated via Junos Pulse when off campus to use the app.
Download the ebrary app to read ebooks within the JMU Library subscription. The ebrary app comes pre-installed with a user guide for help. Note: you will need a free ebrary user account, free Adobe account, and internet connection to use this app. Not all books are available for download, but can be read online within the app.
After installing the EBSCOhost app, visit one of JMU's EBSCO databases and click on the "EBSCOhost iPhone and Android Applications" link at the bottom of the page. Enter your email address to receive download instructions and an authentication key. Click here for a help sheet containing detailed download and function information.
EBSCO also offers a mobile site. Visit http://search.ebscohost.com on your mobile device on JMU Official Wireless or be authenticated through the Junos Pulse app. This mobile site requires Java for use; see FAQ for more information.
LexisNexis Academic Mobile (beta)

RefMobile

RefMobile is a version of RefWorks for mobile and smart phones, as well as PDAs, that allows you to access and view your references, manage folders, import references. Click here for more information.

Micromedex Drug Information app

Download this free app to access drug information on the go. Once you download the app, information will remain on your mobile device - no internet access needed. Updates are available approximately every 2 weeks. See the help pages for more information by clicking on the Information button in the app.
PubMed Mobile apps allow users to search PubMed, read abstracts and full text articles (when available), save searches, and email citations.

If you're using an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch, you will need to use the Send-to-Mobile button to create lists and play tracks. Users with Android devices can use the blue Play button to play tracks.
If you are on a computer, you are able to send music tracks to your iOS or Android device from the Alexander Street Press music resources. Just click on the Send-to-Mobile cell phone icon next to a song, album, or playlist and a list of instructions will appear to help you get the track to your mobile device. Tracks will play for 48 hours from anywhere, but after the 48 hours are up, you must be on the JMU wireless network to play your tracks. Click here for more information.

The American Institute of Physics iResearch iPhone application is an offline e-reader that enables users to save PDF files locally to their device and view them offline without a Wifi or cellular connection. Click here for more information and FAQs.

arXiview arXiv Mobile

The arXiv mobile app allows users to search the arXiv by date, author, title, full text, with and without restrictions to specific categories of the arXiv. You may also save preprints and email preprint information.
BioOne Mobile is a mobile site that provides access to journals and books to smartphone users. Tablet users will view the full site with an option to switch to the mobile site. Note: if you are on campus and connected to JMU Official Wireless, you can access BioOne mobile without logging in. However, if you are off campus or not connected to JMU Official Wireless, you will need to pair your device to view JMU subscribed content. Click here for detailed pairing instructions. Access BIOSIS Previews from any mobile device to search the index for journal articles, patents, conference reports, and books. Note: if you are on campus and connected to JMU Official Wireless, you can access BIOSIS Previews mobile without logging in. However, if you are not connected to JMU Official Wireless or authenticated with Junos Pulse, you will need to log in with a free Web of Knowledge user account. Safari Books Online

Read books on business, information technology, web development, math, science, and more on Safari Books Online's mobile site. Must be on JMU Official Wireless or authenticated with the Junos Pulse app.
SciFinder Scholar offers a mobile site for on the go research; search topics, substance identifiers, authors, and companies. Users can also create alerts and save answers. Note: You must have a SciFinder Scholar user account through JMU. To register for an account, click here and follow the instructions.

ScienceDirect app provides access to JMU's subscribed Elsevier articles and books.
Download the SpringerImages app to view tables, charts, graphs, and other images. Images attached to peer-reviewed, Open Access articles are freely available, but the complete collection of images requries a paid subscription not provided by JMU Libraries. Click here for subscription details.
This app provides access to journal articles and book chapters in the science, technology, and medical fields. Once the app is installed, users on JMU Official Wireless can access our subscription full text. If you are off campus or using a cell service network, you will need to sign into your free individual Springer account to access full text. Discovery Education mobile

Use Discovery Education mobile to view video clips in the core K-12 curriculum areas. No downloads necessary - go to mobile.discoveryeducation.com and login with your username and password. If you do not have an established username/password, please see these instructions.
