General Databases cover a range of topics and include both popular and scholarly articles. Each database also covers different sources, so you might consider using more than one.  If you have a specific subject the  More Articles by Subject   (in the right column) might be useful.

	Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) Index and full-text source for scholarly journals and magazines ... Coverage: 1853 - present Campus/Remote
	Google Scholar Search the Internet for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research... Coverage: Varies Unrestricted
	WilsonWeb OmniFile (HW Wilson) An index with abstracts and some full text covering all subjects, including humanities and social sciences... Coverage: 1982 - present Campus/Remote
	ArticleFirst (OCLC) An index to the tables of contents of journals in all subject areas... Coverage: 1990 - present Campus/Remote
	Alternative Press Index (OCLC) Indexes alternative, radical, and left periodicals, newspapers and magazines... Coverage: 1991 - present Campus/Remote

Citation Indexes

Traditionally, citation indexes are used to find out who has cited a paper in published research. The idea is that if, someone cited an article in his/her research, then the topic is likely related to the topic of the original work.  You can search these with an article in mind or just by key word searching.

Finding Information about Journals

Once you track down an article you might want to know more information about the journal where that article was published. Periodical Locator will tell you which journals JMU owns. The other two databases will provide information, such as impact factor, about journals.

	Journal Citation Reports (ISI) Provides data that helps with evaluation and comparison of scholarly journals. Coverage: 2005 - present Campus / Remote
	Ulrichsweb.com (Bowker) A directory of currently published periodicals (magazines, journals, newsletters, etc) ... Coverage: Current Campus/Remote
