SCOPE & CONTENT
This collection consists of one folder with twelve letters from L.R. Milbourne to his fiancée Virginia Strickler, both of Luray, VA, and one letter from Miss Strickler to Mr. Milbourne, 1886-1888; and Virginia's notebook of wardrobe expenses, 1893-1906. Milbourne, a preacher, writes mostly about religion, strictures for a proper Christian life, & sermon topics, as well as visits to members of the town, activities of the Sunbeam Society, missionary work done by women, townspeople who have professed their faith in the Savior, activities of the discipline committee, his trip to Beutonville, and their upcoming marriage. Virginia's letter to Mr. Milbourne discusses religion and a petition for a prohibition amendment. This collection supplements SC #2062, the Hoover Collection, which contains materials relevant to the Strickler family of Luray.
