Includes brief biographical essays of prominent anthropologists and ethnologists.

Birx, H. James.  c2006. Encyclopedia of anthropology.  Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Publications.  
Ref GN11 .E63 2006 5vols. Carrier Library.
A good comprehensive encyclopedia of anthropology.  Includes bibliographical references and an index.

Gaillard, Gérald. 2004. The Routledge dictionary of anthropologists. Translated by Peter James Bowman.  London; New York: Routledge.  Ref GN20 .G3513 2004. Carrier Library.
Includes brief entries on important anthropologists.  Originally published in French.

Murray, Tim. 1999. Encyclopedia of archaeology: the great archaeologists.  Santa Barbara, CA: ABC-CLIO.  Ref CC100 .E54 1999 2 vols. Carrier Library.
Includes brief essays on prominent archaeologists.  The essays have bibliographies at the end that could prove useful. 

Research Databases
American National Biography. (Oxford University Press)
Contains biographical information on over 18,000 notable people in American history from before 1800 to the present.  Allows you to search by occupation, bird dates, death dates and birthplaces.

Biography and Genealogy Master Index.  (Gale)
Indexes more than 10 million biographical sketches from current and recent reference sources.  Covers both living and deceased persons from every field and country. 

Biography Resource Center.  (Gale)
A full-text database with biographical information on over 320,000 people throughout history and from all over the world. 

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. (Oxford University Press)
Contains biographies of over 56,000 men and women from the earliest times who were noteworthy in British history and society.  Does not contain information on living persons.  It also contains over 10,000 portraits.  A 60 volume print edition of this resource can be found in Carrier Library’s Reference Collection at DA28 .O95.
