Financial information: a note about availability
Some considerations as you pursue corporate information:
- Public companies: Public companies are required to report to their shareholders a basic level of information, including income, balance sheet and cash flow statements. Comprehensive annual statements are reported in SEC form 10-K and can be readily found on company Web sites or through sites like Google Finance.
- Subsidiaries of public companies: While some companies may report on operational details of particular subsidiaries, product lines or branch locations, this level of detail is not required and not always provided.
- Private companies: Privately held companies -- those not on any stock market -- have no public reporting requirements. Financial details on these businesses are generally more difficult to locate.
