SCOM 385: Qualitative Communication Research Methods

Encyclopedias:

The Sage Encyclopedia of Qualitative Research Methods (online), Sample Entry for Narrative Analysis.  This is great and handy e-version resource that can help you "translate" some of the material and terms you might encounter.

Communication Databases for Literature Review

Communication topics are multi and inter-disciplinary.  Depending on your topic, you might also find these resources helpful:

Resource Covers
Sociological Abstracts specific populations, identity in groups, group communication
PsycINFO relationships, personal identity, (dis)satisfaction, stress
ERIC k-12 & university populations, teaching, student-teacher relationship
ABI Inform or  Business Source Complete consumer behavior, marketing, markets, advertising, communication technologies, org comm, mass comm
Scopus citation searching
CINAHL or PubMed health communication, disease, health campaigns
AgeLine issues related to aging or elderly populations

These are examples!  There are disciplinary databases for every discipline you can think of.  If you need help choosing, please ask.

APA Manual of Style Copies in Carrier and ECL Reference/Reserve

Also, if your topic is REALLY BIG and REALLY Broad, jumping right to journal literature review may be frustrating.  A journal article, is by it's nature narrow in scope. Consider using LEO, Library Catalog for book-length, chapter length or overviews of large topics.
