Information Literacy Article Wins Award

An article in Marketing Education Review by Theresa Flaherty, a faculty participant in the Library’s 2006 information literacy workshop, and another Business faculty member Bud Clarke was named one of Library Instruction Round Table News (LIRT) Top Twenty library instructional articles of 2007.  The citation for the article is: Clarke III, Irvine, and Theresa Flaherty. “Fostering Information Literacy in the Marketing Curriculum by Engaging Students with Print Marketing Resources.” Marketing Education Review, 17.1 (2007): 79-85.

Their article describes the assignment Dr. Flaherty devised in the Libraries’ 2006 Information Literacy Workshop.  The assignment encouraged the use of print resources while also incorporating the use of marketing concepts students were learning in their Principles of Marketing class.  The assignment asked students to select one of a number of print marketing resources, such Market Share Reporter, for example, and to create advertising material to promote that resource.  Students had become familiar with the source and learn its features in order to promote it effectively.

Library Instruction Round Table is a roundtable of the American Library Association that advocates library instruction as a means for developing competent library and information use as a part of lifelong learning.
