ACT Academy, in McKinney, Texas, has developed a modern version of the one-room school using advanced educational technology and the "innovations" modeled on a one-room school, such as cross-age learning. Teachers and administrators describe the positive results of these innovations and the underlying environments and support from school administration needed to effect these changes. Additional innovations: use of technology for student presentations, at ACT Academy (ACT stands for Academic Competitiveness through Technology); portfolios for student assessment; cooperative learning
