        This reference set functions as an exhaustive index to maps and cartography for the Serial Set.

        This source material was published in ten classes. Each class begins in 1789. The ending dates vary from 1832-1838. A table of contents introduces, and an index closes, each volume. Although not all documents and reports are available this is the most important source for early records of Congress.

    The following titles are examples of major microform sources for historical research in Carrier Library.

    Draper Manuscripts. (Microform Area. Microfiche and Microfilm)
        This series encompasses the era of pre-American Revolution to ca. 1840. A printed guide discusses the source material available here. The documentation is on microfilm and microfiche. See the Draper Handout for information on this important series.

    Library of American Civilization (LAC). (Microform Area. Microfiche (Ultrafiche)
        A collection of ca. 20,000 titles. It covers all areas of American civilization up to ca. World War I. It is cataloged in LEO. Because of its great reduction on the fiche a special lens is required for viewing. One microfiche reader/printer is available for this material.

    Southern Women and Their Families in the 19th Century, Papers and Diaries. Series A, Holdings of the Southern Historical Collection, University of North Carolina. (Microform Area. Microfilm)

    Most academic libraries follow the Library of Congress Subject Headings. These volumes list available subject headings. A copy of this set is located near the printers in the Reference Area of Carrier Library. The following subject headings are examples only of some subject headings on U.S. History, 1789-1848. A WORD search is generally very useful early in the search process to determine possible subject headings.
