Information Literacy Workshop 2008

Application & Requirements

Eligibility

All full-time JMU faculty teaching in the majors are eligible to apply. Space is limited to 10 participants. Applicants must submit the following:

Participant Selection & Notification

Representatives of JMU Libraries and the Center for Faculty Innovation, will select workshop participants using the following criteria:

  • Evaluation of applicant's commitment and interest, as evidenced in the personal statement.
  • Potential for integrating information literacy into the major or academic program.

  • Overall quality of the proposal

  • Efforts will be made to create a diverse group of participants, representing various academic programs and departments.

Faculty will be notified of acceptance by March 20. 


Expectations of Participants

All workshop participants are expected to attend the entire 3-day workshop.

Faculty will agree to modify an existing course to include:

  • Information literacy objectives

  • An assignment that requires students to find, evaluate & effectively use information

  • Assessment of student performance

Faculty agree to teach the course using the resulting modifications.

Faculty will submit a final report to the Coordinator of Library Instruction at the end of the course semester.

Participants will present results at a future CFI workshop.

Faculty will provide the modified syllabus & accompanying assignments to be posted on the publicly available workshop Web site.
