Listen to Urdu Poetry Online

As part of this year's International Week, September 25-29, JMU Libraries is pleased to present a new online exhibit of Urdu Poetry ReadingsListen to the beautiful Urdu language with Ramesh Sundaram of the United Kingdom reading selected poems.  Follow along with English translations and the original texts. 

Mr. Sundaram has recorded poetry readings for the BBC Asian Network. He recorded these poems specifically for this JMU Libraries & Educational Technologies online exhibit. The selections are from Master Pieces of Urdu Ghazals from 17th to 20th Century by K.C. Kanda. 

Urdu is a language that developed under Persian, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, and Sanskrit influence in South Asia during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire, 1200 to 1800.
