Map Collection

The map collection is located on the first floor of Carrier Library in the Reference area. The collection is accessible during library operating hours and is non-circulating. Collection consists of cataloged maps and U.S.G.S. maps.
Index maps to the U.S.G.S. map collections are located on top of the map cases. The Geographic Names Information System is a database that can be searched by feature and will retrieve the U.S.G.S. 7.5 minute topographic maps name, (i.e. Hone Quarry Dam is on Reddish Knob quadrangle, Virginia 7.5 (U.S.G.S. map)
U.S.G.S. maps can be purchased from the following map dealers. Maps may be purchased locally from Wilderness Voyagers, and the Geology department of James Madison University.
U.S.G.S. Topographic Map Collection Collection includes:
1:250,000 United States
1:24,000 Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky
1:24,000 Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado.
Index maps are located on top of map case.
Cataloged maps
Search Leo: Carrier Library's online catalog by subject or word. Then limit the results to Map/Atlas to retrieve maps, (i.e. Civil War then limit by Map/Atlas).
