The repair shop of Media Resources has as its primary goal the maintenance of media equipment owned by the department itself, and by the other departments within the University's Academic Affairs division. All repairs from academic departments are free of labor charges; only expenses for parts above $200 and the entire cost of outserviced repairs (those which cannot be performed in-shop) are charged to the department involved. Equipment from other campus departments and offices is serviced as well under the same charges, but may be subject to additional labor charges in special cases.
All requests for repairs should be discussed with the Media Technicians whenever possible, and the problem clearly indicated in writing when the equipment is deposited at the Spotswood Hall shop. The Technicians try to accommodate emergencies, but most repairs are handled in order of receipt.
Categories of equipment that are NOT SERVICED are the following:
1. Equipment normally serviced by other on-campus or off-campus personnel--e.g., property of Radio Station WMRA, the Media Production Center, or campus Residence Halls.
2. Equipment that is not property of the University or of the Commonwealth of Virginia, whether or not it is used for classroom instruction.
3. Equipment not used for typical audiovisual media applications--e.g., personal computers, scientific instruments, etc.
