Technology Classrooms (TCs) Service Policy and Use
Emergency Contacts
- If equipment fails during class, call 568-6799 for assistance.
Non-emergencies
- West Campus tchelp@jmu.edu, East Campus help@cisat.jmu.edu
Classroom access and security
- All Technology Classrooms on the West Campus require an ETC Key with the exception of Showker Hall. East Campus TCs require a different key.
East Campus users should contact Hope Thompson, CISAT 568-2760, regarding East Campus key access.
-- To obtain an ETC key you must submit a TC key request/renewal form.
-- You must have an active eID (the same JMU username and password used for JMU webmail) and be scheduled to teach in a TC in order to succesfully submit the TC request/renewal form. (The TC key database will confirm that you are scheduled to teach in the TC)
-- If you are not scheduled to teach in the classroom and you attempt to submit the TC reuest/renewal form you will receive an on screen error message telling you to contact MRCT (Kelly Miller-Martin 568-3842 between the hours of 8AM-2PM) to discuss your circumstances.
-- If you are not scheduled to teach in a TC, but you need access to the room, contact MRCT (Kelly Miller-Martin 568-3842 between the hours of 8AM-2PM) to discuss your circumstances.
-- After completing the TC key request/renewal form, users will be notified by email that your request is being processed.
-- When your key is ready for pickup, you'll receive another email with instructions to pick up your key from Media Resources Circulation Desk, Library Basement Room 16.
- TC keys must be returned to MRCT on or before it's due date or renewed using the TC key request/renewal form. There is a $25 non-refundable fee if you fail to return or renew your key on time and a $50 if you lose your key, also non-refundable.
- Faculty who are scheduled to teach in a TC may also request a key for their Graduate Assistant using the key request/renewal form. The faculty member, not the student, is responsible for complying with these terms of use, including ecumbrance of any fee, if apllicable.
- "Occasional" (e.g. one-time) TC users are required to request a key in advance using the key checkout/renewal form and process described above.
- Do not share or loan your key with others or unlock a TC for someone who is not scheduled to teach in the room.
- TCs should be kept locked at all times; at the end of the day (last scheduled class), during the day when no class is scheduled after yours, and during the day if no scheduled class has appeared by the time yours is ready to vacate. A classroom schedule is published online on the individual room TC web page. TC users are expected to clear their classroom of attendees when the room must be locked. Please make an effort to secure all windows for ground-floor rooms at day's end or when no succeeding room user is scheduled.
Options for TC Orientation
-
Please visit the TC webpage, the Teaching System Video, and Orientation Handout for basic instructions. If you'd like to arrange for an individual or group orientation please call 568-6799 or email tchelp@jmu.edu as far in advance as possible.
Notification of Hardware & Software Changes
-
Users are notified of changes to the classrooms by email sent to their JMU email account.
-
Where a critical change or problem is simple enough to communicate and requires immediate notification to users, a message is placed as a "screensaver" on the computers in each room system. Where this cannot be done, a printed message may be attached to the room system.
-
Media Resources also uses the "News" category located on the TC main page to communicate with users.
New Hardware and Software Additions
-
New hardware and software is considered on an annual basis and are normally added during the summer session and during non-class time. Email tchelp@jmu.edu to request new hardware and softeware installations.
