Here is a five-step plan on finding music articles at JMU.

1.  Search IIMP for your topic

IIMP indexes hundreds of the major journals in music.  IIMP also offers the full-text of articles for almost 50 journals, like American Music Teacher, American String Teacher, Choral Journal, Jazz Educators Journal, Journal of Singing, Keyboard, Perspectives of New Music, and Sacred Music to name just a few.  So you can get quite a bit of information right on your computer.
Read the online journals from IIMP, and make note (print citations, make notes, or cut and paste into a document) of the articles that you want but are not full-text.

2.  If you still need more (or couldn't find what you need) try RILM.

RILM indexes more journals, and is more international in coverage (more foreign language journals).  However, it does not include full text for any journals, so you won't be able to read any articles online.
Make note (print citations, make notes, or cut and paste into a document) of the articles that you want and go to 4, below.

3.  If you still need more, try other indices in the sidebar at right

Lexis-Nexis offers full-text of articles from most of the world's major newspapers.  Just click on news, select "Arts and Sports" and search.
Arts and Humanities Search, Humanities Abstracts, Lexis-Nexis, and Doctoral Dissertations in Music all have easy-to-use interfaces and lots of information about music.
Make note (print citations, make notes, or cut and paste into a document) of the articles that you want and go to 4, below..

4.  Search for journal titles

Search for the journal titles you have citations from.  This search will tell you where to access the particular title.  Some titles we will have paper, others online access, and some we will not have.

5.  Request other articles through ILL.

Take your citations (the articles you couldn't read online or find at JMU) and request them through ILL.  They can come as quickly as 24 hours, but usually average about 3 days for articles.
