What is PsycTUTOR?
It is a Web-based program that teaches information-seeking and evaluation skills (see list). The purpose of this program is to:
  • introduce you to important print and electronic sources
  • teach research strategies for the field of psychology
  • give you hands-on experience
  • give you a chance to practice critical thinking skills

Who may use it?
The program is intended for use psychology majors taking PSYC 211, but it may also be used by graduate students at JMU.

How do I use it?
To use this program, read a section. Then click on the Complete Exercises button at the end of the section. Print off the exercise page. Write your answers on paper and hand them in to your PSYC 211 lab instructor. Proceed to the next section.

To complete the exercises, you will need to:

  • read the text and study the examples in PsycTUTOR
  • search for information in LEO, PsycINFO, and other databases
  • examine and evaluate sources for quality
  • apply what you learned to new problems
