Test Information
Tests are very important in the field of psychology. They are used in almost all psychological research. In addition, psychologists use tests to evaluate students and clients. As a student, you may need to investigate the reliability or validity of a test, or you may need to find a test to use in your research.
Some tests have been published and are commercially available, while others are unpublished. Information on unpublished tests is very difficult to find.
Find Information about a Test
- The best sources of information on published tests are:
- Mental Measurements Yearbook (Ref BF698.5 B932 and on Psychology Research Guide)
- Gives descriptive information, references, and critical reviews of tests.
- Tests in Print (Ref BF698.5 .T4)
- Gives descriptive information and references for tests currently available, but no reviews. It is considered to be an index to all editions of the Mental Measurements Yearbook.
Find a Test
- You may find psychological tests in the following places:
- Psychology Test Library Room 214, Johnston Hall
- This library has several hundred psychological tests. Students must be authorized by faculty to use the tests.
- PsycINFO
(Psychology Research Guide)
- Questionnaires, surveys, and checklists may sometimes be found in journal articles and books. Search PsycINFO for the topic you want to measure and look through the abstracts for instruments the author developed and included.
- HAPI (Health and Psychosocial Instruments) (Psychology Research Guide)
- Helps locate measurement instruments (questionnaires, rating scales, checklists, etc).
