This web page lists major career and employment sites. It is arranged by academic, general, and Virginia sites. A excellent print source is in issue no. 55 (1996) of The Reference Librarian. The issue theme is "Career Planning and Job Searching in the Information Age." Pages 115-118 have a list of the URL addresses that are noted throughout the article. An excellent guide, with Internet addresses, is The Guide to Internet Job Searching @ Ref HF 5382.7 R557 1996. This book is arranged in various chapters including topical approaches by type of job, by government jobs, by international jobs, etc.

CareerMagazine
Although not exclusively for the college graduate, the emphasis is for the college student's interests. Formatted like a daily newspaper, there are links to job openings, employer profiles, news and articles, resume banks, career forums, etc.
College Grad Job Hunter
Designed for the college student that is preparing for job hunting. Topical links include information to know before starting a job, interviewing and job orientation, resumes and cover letters, preparing for the job search, and a link to job postings.
Cool Works
This site lists part-time and summer jobs for students. Links include areas of resort jobs, camp jobs, National Parks, etc.
Jobweb
Career development and job-search information for college students and new college graduates. Site owned and sponsored by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Links to information on job outlook, salaries, employers and more.

Plum Book
Known as the "Plum Book," this site is the Internet edition of "The U.S. Government Policy and Supporting Positions." This is a database of over 9,000 civil service positions for the executive and legislative branches of government.

America's Job Bank
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor and ca. 1800 state Employment Service Agencies. Ca. 250,000 jobs are listed. Searching is by state or region and by type of position. Most jobs are full time and in the private sector.
Career.Com
A major site with links by employers and job seekers. Those seeking a job can search by employer, category/discipline, or location. Resumes can be placed at this site.
CareerPath
Now CareerBuilder, this site is advertised as the most powerful career network on the web. Allows user to store a resume in their dtabase, set up personal agents to track jobs, with results e-mailed. Services are free to user. Over 5 million job listings.
Head-Hunter.net
Recently merged with CareerBuilder, this site lists over 300,000 continuously updated jobs. Allows user to save search criteria, post resumes and customize use.
Monster.com
A massive site which advertises as the "premier" employment Internet site. Job searches include location and position. Users can post a job and resume at this site. Requires frames.
O*NET OnLine: Occupational Information Network
A source for continually updated occupational information and labor market research.
Occupational Outlook Handbook
Published biennially by the federal government, this handbook is one of the most important sources about careers. Information only about positions; there are no employment openings.
