Each volume of the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music Online contains an overview of the region, a survey of its musical heritage, traditions and themes; and a description of specific musical genres, practices, and performances. Other images include drawings, maps, and musical examples for further study.

Each volume is fully searchable by keyword either across all volumes or limited to one specific volume. Interested in African fishing songs? Search for "fishing songs" and limit your search to the African Music volume.
