Online Videos

Narrow your search to online films and video clips in these collections. Most of these are educational rather than popular, and include many different subjects.

A growing collection of educational video programs in all subject areas, licensed by Media Resources and included in the Madison Digital Image Database (MDID).
Campus/Remote; broadband connection required off-campus
A streaming video resource containing thousands of educational videos in 8 subject areas.  Includes access to archival films and newsreels.
Educational, online videos in many subjects. Select from the list and then look for the VoD (Video On Demand) icon for the free content. Free registration required.

Internet Archive's library of free movies, films, animations, and videos.  Uploaders designate whether or not an item has a Creative Commons License.  If they do so, the CC Logo will appear on the left hand side of the movie's detail page.  Click on this logo to see details about the specific type of license for each video.

This resource has been cancelled, effective 10/31/2014. Search or browse to find thousands of streaming video clips from the NBC archives.

Collection of videos and talks from TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Conferences.  Subject areas include Technology, Entertaiment, Design, Business, Science, and Global Issues.  Search by keyword, subject area, newest releases, favorites, and other searchable options.     
YouTube is the world's most popular online video community, allowing millions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers large and small.

Film Guides

Use guides to identify films by subjects or personnel not included in the library and vendor catalogs. Many of these offer extensive information not found in other resources.

Search for a title to find links for more films with the same personnel, themes, moods or genre.  Also offers choices for browsing by decade and country. Also lists purchase information from a variety of online vendors, but the best feature of this source is the ability to find similar titles.
DVDs and videos listed for sale along with technical information, customer reviews, plot summaries, and cast lists.
Film Indexes Online (Chadwyck-Healey) (Cancelled)
This resource has been cancelled, effective 10/1/2014. Includes both Film Index International and the American Film Institute (AFI) Catalog. Film Index International is a filmography covering international film awards and prizes, film reviews, plot summaries, and cast and crew lists for films from over 170 countries. The AFI Catalog provides full production and cast information, extensive plot summaries and notes for American films from 1893 to 1971.
The Internet movie database covers more than 115,000 movies and contains over 1,750,000 filmography...
Subscribe to NetFlix to get a steady supply of films. Browse the site for cast, awards, ratings, and film summaries.
