Kemper, Charles E. "The Early History of the Peaked Mountain Presbyterian Church, Rockingham County, Virginia." Presbyterian Historical Society. Journal 10 (March 1919): 17-23.
Kemper wrote this article from court records with a few facts from outside sources. He notes this was the original church in Rockingham County built in 1748 or 1749. Kemper determined there were church services as early as 1745. He also records as the first permanent minister the Rev. John Hindman who also had the first know horse race track west of the Blue Ridge.This was as early as 1745.
