Religion continues to play a major role in the history of Rockingham County. Worship services were held in the County from the beginning of settlement. The compiler's 1989 Rockingham County bibliography contained 376 citations on religion.
This bibliography continues the 1989 publication in having a large number of congregational histories. Some of these are sketches from periodical literature. The Valley Mennonite Messenger has had several series of brief articles at different times of their churches.
Over ten term papers are represented in this section along with a masters thesis.
Publications representing the Church of the Brethren and Mennonite Church continue to prevail. They are well represented with institutions of higher education in the County and many scholars.
An article of interest would be Charles Kemper's 1919 writing of " The Early History of Peaked Mountain Presbyterian Church, Rockingham County, Virginia."
