| Abstract: | This is an unpublished manuscript from a paper read at a history conference at Virginia Military Institute in March 1995. The paper looks at industrialization efforts in the last half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The examples used include the work of Emanuel Suter and his pottery business. Suter's efforts to improve and modernize are emphasized. |
