This building which contains laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, cooking, dietetics, housewifery, textiles, millinery and dressmaking, together with two class rooms for general work, several offices and storerooms, with all departments modernly equipped, was named for Matthew Fontaine Maury, naval officer, hydrographer, scientist, author and teacher, who was born near Fredericksburg, Va. January 24, 1806, and whose oceanographical work gained world-wide recognition. On the right of the picture is a partial view of the college infirmary. [The reverse indicates that is was published by Shenandoah Publishing House-Strasburg, Virginia. Copyright 1923.]
