The Jacob Heischman Daybook, 1879-1880, consists of one bound daybook detailing purchases from Heischman's Mount Clifton, Virginia, general store from March 3, 1879 to March 30, 1880.

Deteriorated cover was removed in February 2009 and pastedown that included Heischman's inscription was photocopied.
Historical Note
Jacob Heischman, son of Jacob and Christena Heischman, was born in Hardy County, West Virginia, in 1852. On March 28, 1878, at the age of twenty-five, he wed Mary Alice Brumbaugh of Shenandoah County, Virginia, and together were the parents of six children. Heischman passed away in 1932 at the age of eighty and was buried in the Christ Reformed Church cemetery in Conicville, Virginia (Shenandoah County). His wife, who died in 1937, is buried there also.
Scope and Content
The Jacob Heischman Daybook, 1879-1880, consists of one bound daybook (12'' x 18'' x 1/2''), detailing daily purchases and transactions from Heischman's Mount Clifton, Virginia, general store from March 3, 1879 until March 30, 1880. Included are the names of the patrons and the most prominent purchases recorded are snuff, tobacco, food, and an assortment of general merchandise.
