Acquisition Information: Donation from Sarah Maria Everett during her senior year as a student at James Madison University.
Provenance: The newspaper was a gift to the donor from her parents, purchased from an antique dealer.
The engraving was given to the donor by Pat Thompson, a longtime docent at Montpelier. This was a retirement gift to Thompson from staff at Montpelier who purchased it from Jentz Prints in Brunswick, Maryland.
Bio/Historical Note: Donor was a recognized expert on James Madison during her time as a student at JMU and received several gifts of historical items that mention Madison.
Scope and Content: The newspaper contains an address by President Madison on the second page. The engraving is a portrait and signature of James Madison with a small image of Montpelier beneath. "Copyright 1907 by Bureau of National Literature and Art."
