COXE, JOHN V. PAPERS. SC# 3098

CARRIER LIBRARY, JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY
Harrisonburg, VA 22807

Compiled by Chris Bolgiano, April 1999

Scope & Content. This collection consists of one scrapbook (3 folders) of photographs and clippings related to the Civilian Conservation Corp Camp #3, Company 1387, Bald Face Mountain, Shenandoah National Park, 1933-34, collected by Jack V. Coxe, a former member of the CCC. Also included are a few of Coxe's letters and documents from the 1930s, and news clippings from the 1980s with interviews concerning the CCC camp.

Provenance. Deposited by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society on Feb. 25, 1998.

Preservation. This material was originally in a three ring binder, with photos attached to black construction paper and captions typed on separate slips of paper. Approval was secured from Scott Suter, Historical Society Curator, for purposes of long-term preservation, to remove photos from the black paper and replace on acid-free bond paper on which captions were typed as they appeared in the original slips. On some pages, photographs had not all been fastened but were simply placed behind other photographs, making more photographs than the page could accommodate, so when re-typed some captions that indicated placement on the page are not applicable to the new arrangement.

News clippings were photocopied.

NOTE:  The original CCC patch formerly at the beginning of the binder was withdrawn by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society on May 16, 2000 for display by the Society.

Organization.
