Jordan, Mary.  Diary.  SC # 4025.

CARRIER LIBRARY, JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY
Harrisonburg, VA 22807

Compiled by Chris Bolgiano, January, 2002

Scope and Content:  This collection consists of one bound diary kept by Mary Jordan of Harrisonburg from January 1 to October, 1879. Entries are brief and mention weather, daily activities such as church attendance, visits from relatives and friends, travel of relatives to Baltimore, and getting loads of wood and barrels of flour.  Occasional items of local news are also mentioned, such as court days, trials, and births, marriages, and deaths. On the first page is written:  "Mary Jordan born in 17 hundred and 98 and this is 1879 I am still here."   This is probably the same Mary Jordan whose Civil War diary was transcribed in 1961, and which can be found in Carrier Library at Spec. Coll. F 234.H3H37.

Provenance.  Purchased from Green Valley Auctions, Jan. 2002.
