Abstract: The GarberLogan Collection, 1846-1949, consists of 2.8 linear feet of material. Included in the collection are personal receipts of Joseph Garber, genealogy of the Garber Family, and old photographs most likely taken by John and Emma Logan.

Bio/Historical Note:  John Leonard Logan (1891-1973) was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He married Emma (Polly) Catherine Garber (1890-1990) in St. Stephen’s Reformed Church in Harrisonburg in 1915. Emma was a telephone operator for several years in the Harrisonburg exchange, while John was in the insurance business in Staunton. They had one son, James (Jack) Hunter Logan (1916-2005). After James was born, they moved to Charlottesville, VA where John worked for People’s Life Insurance CO.  He and Polly moved to Silver Springs, MD in 1933. John worked for Peoples Life in Washington D.C. for 45 years.

Scope and Content:  Included in the collection are personal receipts of Joseph Garber, genealogy of the Garber Family, and old photographs most likely taken by John and Emma. The collection consists of three series.

Series I is a collection of personal papers from the Garber Logan Family. They include receipts from local businesses, certificates from World War II, and genealogy on the Garber Ancestors of James H. Logan.

Series II includes a set of 3 logbooks of John Logan. It has something written for each day of the week from July 1896 to July 1926. The entries are brief, usually only a couple of words.

Series III is photographs. Most of the photos have some kind of description on the back. There is also a collection of 3 photo albums
