Recipients of Burruss Local History Grants

Awarded January 2004

Laura Zarrugh, Prof. of Sociology/Anthropology, Bridgewater College and James Madison University.  Second part of "Immigrant Entrepreneurs in the Central Shenandoah Valley."  $2,000 for a research paper analyzing responses to questionnaires.  Final report submitted Jan. 2005:  "From Workers to Owners:  Hispanic Entrepreneurs in the Shenandoah Valley."

 

Awarded January 2003:

Laura Zarrugh, Prof. of Sociology/Anthropology, Bridgewater College and James Madison University.  "Immigrant Entrepreneurs in the Central Shenandoah Valley."  $2,000 for a list of and data about  recent immigrants who have started businesses in Harrisonburg.  

 

Awarded January 2002: 

Vivian Owens, Independent Scholar and Publisher, Waynesboro, VA.  "An Oral History of School Integration in Waynesboro, VA from an African American Perspective."  $985 for five oral histories.

Carol M. DeHart, Independent Scholar, Fulks Run, VA.  "Oral Histories on Folklore and Lifeways of the early 1900s in Bergton/Criders, VA."  $583 for three oral histories.
