Our physical collections are available across several locations including two main libraries, Carrier and Rose, as well as the Music Library and the ETMC:
General collection items
Over 500,000 books to checkout under our standard loan period.
Select titles and best seller books and DVDs are available in the Carrier and Rose library commons.
Find materials on hourly reserve for your course, or place a request for reserves.
Journals, magazines, and newspapers are housed in Carrier Library, Rose Library, and in off-site storage. Our Periodical Locator provides searches by title, citation, or subject.
Reference books are provided in designated quiet zones in Carrier and Rose libraries. Call number ranges match those of the general collections in each library.
Collected edition scores
Complete works of various composers are among the collections provided by and housed at the Music Library.
Audio & Video
Our physical collection of audio and video are on CDs located in the Music Library and DVDs located in Carrier Library. Both can be requested for delivery from the item’s catalog record.
A variety of Communication Sciences and Disorders diagnostic tests are available at Carrier Library.
We have a variety of periodicals, journals, and newspapers that are contained in microform formats. All materials are in the Periodical Locator, generally located in our off-site storage facility and are available via the off-site request form. We provide two microform readers in Carrier Library connected to computers for viewing, scanning, and printing microforms. If you will be saving scanned versions of your documents, it is recommended that you bring a USB flash drive to store your work.

While most of our government documents are accessed through our online databases, a small physical collection is available in Carrier Library.
These are available among the materials housed at Memorial hall in the ETMC.

JMU Libraries for Distance Learners
Our goal is to provide remote JMU Students and Faculty with the same excellent library services that are available to them while on campus. Distance learning programs include online or off-campus courses, study abroad programs, the Washington semester program, remote practicum assignments, and similar off-campus for-credit learning experiences.
