High Five! ACT Grant Award Winners

On January 22, 2018, nine faculty members from diverse disciplines at JMU were awarded Accelerating Creative Teaching (ACT) Grants. This grant, sponsored by JMU Libraries and Educational Technologies, provides opportunities to encourage innovations in teaching and share instructors’ creativity in engaging student learning through the use of technology. Selected projects have been reviewed by faculty members from multiple discipline areas and represent the development of deep, meaningful, and reflective learning in students.


This year’s ACT Grant recipients, academic units, and projects are:


Xuebin Wei, ISAT, Creating and Printing 3D Models with LiDAR Data


Elizabeth Herron, Julie Strunk, and Nancy Puffenbarger, School of Nursing, Engagement with Community Partners to Promote and Enhance the Transition of Evidence-based Nursing from the Classroom to Clinical Practice


Emily York and Shannon Conley, ISAT, Responsible Innovation and Ethical Reasoning with Design Fiction

Yeonsoo Kim, School of Communication Studies, Launching a Student-Run PR Firm as a Part of a Public Relations Course

Laura Lambert, ISAT, Improving Student Engagement with a Flipped Blended Classroom


Thomas Moran, Kinesiology, Online, Interactive, and Creative - Training Adapted Physical Activity/Education Professionals to Meet the Needs of Individuals with Disabilities
