Donated by Sarah Maria Everett in 2012, during her senior year as a student at James Madison University.
The newspaper was a gift to the donor from her parents, purchased from an antique dealer. The engraving was given to the donor by Pat Thompson, a longtime docent at Montpelier. This was a retirement gift to Thompson from staff at Montpelier who purchased it from Jentz Prints in Brunswick, Maryland.
In order to streamline the process of applying collection numbers, Special Collections staff completed a large-scale renumbering campaign in 2017-2019. This collection was previously cataloged as SC 5047.
