Faculty: Want a $2000 Open Adopt Grant? Apply by October 4.

Posted on: September 16, 2021

JMU instructors, do you want to redesign your course or syllabus to swap out an expensive textbook for an option that is open or does not cost for students to access?

Consider applying for the Open Adopt Grant program from VIVA, Virginia’s academic library consortium. These grants are similar to the popular VIVA Course Redesign Grants, but they have a simplified application process, a predetermined award amount, and will be awarded to individual faculty members hoping to adopt an already-existing open resource.

VIVA Open Adopt Grants provide awards of $2,000 to individual instructors to support the time it takes to  integrate existing open or no-cost materials into a syllabus, and to ensure that the results of those efforts are widely available to Virginia educators.

Applications are due October 4, 2021 via email at vivaopen@gmu.edu. Please check in with JMU’s Office of Sponsored Programs (jmu_grants@jmu.edu) in September to verify that your proposal is approved by the university for submission.

VIVA’s website offers more information, including dates of informational webinars.
