6 Exhibits for Women’s History Month

It’s Women’s History Month! This March, we invite you to explore six exhibits that were created or supported by Libraries staff:

1. The 19th Amendment: A History of Women’s Rights at JMU: Find historic JMU photos, an interactive timeline, and the story of the Joan of Arc statue in Carrier Library. And don’t miss this behind-the-scenes story of the work to create the in-person portion of the exhibit: “Storytelling Through Clothing – A History of Women’s Rights at JMU.”

2. Celebrating Simms (physical exhibit pictured above!)
Learn about the life of pioneering African-American educator, Lucy F. Simms, and the Harrisonburg school named in her honor. The in-person exhibit was recently expanded to include “Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Mary Awkard Fairfax.”

3. Women in Politics: A Global Perspective
Explore books about the struggles women have endured to be heard, learn about current political leaders and their stories, and find lessons for future leaders around the world, regardless of their gender.

4. Women in Politics: In Their Own Words
Browse memoirs, academic books, letters, essays, dissertations, and more—all written by women in American politics.

5. Exploring Gender Identity and Expression
Dive into a display about gender identity and expression, including resources about transgender rights, LGBTQ+ and disability communities, and more.

6. Women in the Workplace
The management consulting firm McKinsey & Co. studies women in corporate America and shares findings in a Women in the Workplace report. Find the most recent report, and 12 books that delve into the topic, in this new virtual display.
