About me

Liana Bayne-Lin, Executive Assistant, provides calendar and meeting support to Libraries Dean, Dr. Bethany Nowviskie; welcomes visitors into the Libraries Administration office suite; assists members of Libraries Administration, especially the a-deans, with meetings and tasks; and collaborates closely with members of Finance, HR, and Facilities to support a multitude of projects and events in the Libraries. Liana also collaborates frequently with other administrative assistants across Academic Affairs.

Liana’s research interests include the Anthropocene, sustainability, and their intersections with libraries; professional development among non-faculty members of libraries; therapy dogs in academic libraries; and Afrofuturism.

Service

At JMU, Liana works closely with other Deans’ administrative assistants. She is also a member of AAASAC, serving on the Recognition Committee.

Liana is a member of the American Library Association’s Class of 2020 Emerging Leaders. She also serves on the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL’s) Literatures in English Section’s (LES) Membership committee (chair, 2021-22).

Liana has been with JMU Libraries, in various positions, since 2015.

In her free time, Liana and her dog, Sage, volunteer in the community through Therapy Dogs International. Liana also serves as the Vice President of the local Harrisonburg-Rockingham-Augusta area Therapy Dogs International chapter.

Liana is also a co-facilitator of UNWIND, JMU’s fiber arts affinity group.

The office of the Dean of Libraries includes associate deans for the four major divisions of the JMU Libraries (AE, DATech, LID, and Admin) as well as senior professional faculty leading strategic intiatives.

About Finance, HR, and Facilities

We are responsible for the general finance, human resources, and facilities operations within the Libraries.  

About Libraries Administration

We support and challenge JMU Libraries’ staff and faculty to live up to our guiding statements — as we work together to provide excellent library and educational technology resources, spaces, services, and expertise to our campus community. Libraries’ Administration includes Communications and Outreach, Data Analytics, Facilities Operations, Finance and Human Resources,  and the office of the Dean.
