Faculty Deadline to Mark Your Course as Having “No/Low Cost Course Materials”
Posted September 1, 2026 in Featured News, Open Education News

This is a friendly reminder that if the materials you assign for a course total $40 or less at the JMU Bookstore, you should alert the relevant staff in your department when you submit your other course information so they can add this info to Course Scheduler.
Why enter this information? Taking this step will allow students to find your class when they filter for classes with “No/Low Cost Course Materials” in MyMadison. This helps students who struggle with the cost of textbooks to find more affordable courses. It also helps JMU comply with Virginia legislation (section F) specifying that no/low cost courses be clearly marked.
Registrar’s deadline: You have until September 19, 2026 to submit details for Course Scheduler for next semester, and then you will have another brief window from October 10 to 15.
Bookstore deadline: The JMU Bookstore’s textbook adoption deadline is October 15. Visit the JMU Bookstore’s Textbook and Course Material Adoption page for more information.
Thank you! This is just one of 10 easy ways you can make textbooks more affordable for JMU students.
