A Call for Teaching & Learning Experiments: The new Library Futures Classroom in Carrier Library is a flexible learning laboratory where faculty, students, and Libraries partners can explore how space, pedagogy, and technology shape learning.
Faculty from all disciplines are invited to apply by October 1 to teach in the Library Futures Classroom in Spring or Fall Semester 2027.
We encourage applicants to propose teaching and learning activities that explore questions such as:
- How does classroom design influence collaboration and engagement?
- How can emerging technologies reshape learning?
- What might these experiences teach us about future learning environments at JMU and beyond?
What Does an Experiment Look Like? Experiments can take many forms—from a semester-long course to a workshop, design sprint, co-taught experience, multi-week module, or pilot of an emerging technology.
What do Faculty Receive? Faculty who apply and are selected will gain access the Library Futures Classroom as well as support from educational technologists and instructional designers in JMU Libraries. This includes help with learning activities, assessments, technology exploration, and documenting the experience. The Libraries will work with selected faculty to explore opportunities for funding to acquire technologies that align with the goals of their experiments. Prior experience with instructional technology is not required.
Apply Now: The application is intended to be reflective and exploratory — you don’t need to have every detail figured out. We’re looking for colleagues who are curious, open to experimentation, and eager to learn.
Selected participants will engage in brief planning, reflection, and debrief activities as well as contribute ideas for stories for JMU Libraries to share.
