The Art of Shin’ichi Suzuki

Part of the “Put Life into Music” piece in the exhibit

A new exhibit in the Music Library honors Dr. Shin’ichi Suzuki—violinist, educator, philosopher, humanitarian, and founder of the Suzuki Method.

The art featured in the exhibit was originally from the collection of one of Dr. Suzuki’s students. This collection, Dr. Marianne Perkins String Pedagogy Collection, was awarded to JMU Libraries after a lengthy competitive process. The exhibited art includes watercolors on silk with calligraphy by Dr. Suzuki, a portrait of Suzuki, and more.

The exhibit will be in the Music Library (in the lower level of the Music Building) through the end of May 2022. A video and more information about some of the pieces is available in an accompanying online exhibit.
