The Heatwole Family Papers Acquired by Special Collections

Posted June 19, 2017 in JMU Libraries News

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS is pleased to announce a recently acquired local history manuscript collection! The Heatwole Family Papers were donated to Special Collections last week by descendants of the illustrious David A. Heatwole (1827-1911) family of Rockingham County. Other family names present in the collection include Trumbo, Lineweaver, and Fawley. The collection contains photographs (Brocks Gap, Chimney Rock), correspondence and postcards, ledgers, school material from the State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg, and miscellaneous family papers. This collection, once fully arranged and described, will contribute greatly to our holdings in local and university history. While the collection is officially “in process,” we’d be happy to entertain requests for a show-and-tell!
