Carrier Library will reopen in August 2026! We’re so excited to welcome you back to a space that’s more inspiring, usable, and accessible than ever. 

Here are 11 things we can’t wait for Dukes to discover when we hold the doors open for you! 

  1. A 24/7 study space – Need a place to study after hours? We’ve got you covered with a comfortable, well-lit ground-floor space to swipe into with your JACard—any day, any time.
  2. A grand reading room with a view – Enjoy panoramic views of campus, Harrisonburg, and the Shenandoah Valley while you study or read.
  3. Study spaces that match your vibe – Whether you’re into cozy, book-lined spots or bright, open areas, you’ll find great study spaces in both the historic and new parts of Carrier.
  4. A space for contemplation – Take a breather in our dedicated relaxation room, designed for quiet moments or mental resets.
  5. Universal restrooms on every floor – Because comfort matters.
  6. A place to heat up lunch or prep a snack – Find a sink and microwave by the vending machines!
  7. A makerspace and media studio – Bring your ideas to life with tools and experts supporting creativity and innovation in your academic and personal projects.
  8. An anatomy room – Get hands-on with 3D anatomical models—skeletons, hearts, skulls, ears, and eyes—to support learning about human anatomy.
  9. A Starbucks café – Meet up with friends, grab a bite, or just enjoy the buzz of campus life in a vibrant new hangout.
