About Borrowing Policies

We’ve carefully designed our borrowing policies to support our community, provide fair and equitable access, and encourage use of our physical resources. Key features of our policies include:

  • Simple, consistent loan periods (4 months, 4 weeks, 4 days, or 4 hours)
  • No overdue fines, we only charge for replacement or damage
  • Equivalent loan periods for students, staff, and faculty
  • Generous access privileges for non-JMU community patrons
  • Subsidized Interlibrary Loan service, up to $45.00 per transaction for students, staff, and faculty.

Factors that went into our borrowing policies include benefit and effectiveness for patrons and staff, best practices on a system management level, and a goal of reflecting trends in academic libraries, the ALA Library Bill of Rights, and our own Collection Management policy.

We welcome you to use and enjoy our collections, please contact us with any questions or feedback!
