Faculty: Meet Your Digital Accessibility Ambassador
Posted November 10, 2025 in JMU Libraries News
Recent updates to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act mean that everyone has a role in supporting web accessibility, with new responsibilities for faculty in ensuring that digital course materials are accessible to students.
Do you have insights from your discipline that training providers and campus leaders should consider as we refine our campus approach to digital accessibility?
Our new Digital Accessibility Ambassador Program (DAAP) connects you with a faculty colleague in your college who serves as a peer advocate for instructors working on digital accessibility.
Ambassadors do not provide services or remediate materials, but they do:
- Share faculty perspectives and discipline-specific challenges with campus decision-makers and the teams working to support faculty needs,
- Help connect colleagues to existing training and resources, and
- Refer unique or complex questions to the appropriate university experts.
Your Digital Accessibility Ambassadors:
- College of Arts & Letters: Andrew Witmer
- College of Business: Laura Atkins
- College of Education: Michele Estes
- College of Health & Behavioral Studies: BJ Bryson
- College of Integrated Science & Engineering: Alvin Chao
- College of Science & Mathematics: Jess Marquardt
- College of Visual & Performing Arts: Karin Tollefson-Hall
- Honors College: Allison Fagan
- School of Professional & Continuing Education: Sarah MacDonald
We’re grateful to these colleagues for stepping up to advocate for their fellow faculty members and partner with the Libraries in this important work. By engaging with your college’s ambassador, you can join a campus-wide effort to create inclusive learning environments for all students.
