Instructors: Try Free and Low-Cost Online Textbook Options
Posted on: November 28, 2023
Next semester, try open textbooks! They offer a more affordable alternative for students without compromising on quality. With open textbooks, you have the flexibility to save, share, and revise the material to align with course learning outcomes and equity and inclusion goals.
These online textbook collections offer students immediate, first-day-of-class access to their learning materials:
- Faculty Textbook Portal from VIVA: shared library collections, open textbooks, and ebooks (some to purchase through VIVA) for course use.
- Open textbook collections: full-length textbooks that you may freely use, distribute, and even edit for your course.
Questions? Contact your liaison librarian for help finding a specific resource or contact Liz Thompson at thomp3ea@jmu.edu with questions about open and affordable course content.
