Laptop Loans

JMU students, faculty, or staff who need access to a computer to support academic functions may borrow a laptop from JMU Libraries.
All the laptops are Dell computers running Windows 11.
Students
Students can borrow a laptop for up to 1 month. These laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis from the Learning Innovations & Design Desk in Rose Library.
You can also submit our Equipment Reservation Request to inquire if laptops are available.
Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff can borrow a laptop for 4 days, with the option to extend the loan for up to 2 weeks.
To request a laptop or other equipment to check out, please fill out our Equipment Reservation Request form or visit our Learning Innovations & Design Desk in Rose Library. Reservations and walk-ins are both welcome.
Faculty and staff, you do not need to use this service if you are getting your JMU-owned computer repaired by JMU IT. Instead, contact your unit or the IT Help Desk to request a loaner computer.
Terms
- Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Laptop loans are not available to alumni, affiliates, or community members. Visit our Services For Visitors and Alumni page for more information about computing resources available to the local community through JMU Libraries.
- The standard checkout period for a laptop is 1 month or the end of the semester, whichever comes first. You may renew your loan if there is no one on the waitlist.
- If you are unable to pick up the laptop in person, you may contact us to designate another person to pick it up on your behalf.
- If extenuating circumstances necessitate longer-term access to a laptop loan, students should contact their Academic Unit Head (AUH) to explain their circumstances, and we will work with the AUH to identify the best solution. AUHs can contact Equipment Loans at equipmentloans@jmu.edu.
- If you have a shorter-term or intermittent need for a computer, please consider using one of JMU’s Computing Labs. Learn more about how to access the PC and Mac computers and software available in JMU Libraries computing labs.
- If the laptop you check out is lost, stolen, or damaged, you must immediately report the incident to Equipment Loans. Unreturned equipment may result in fines and/or holds placed on student accounts.
- All laptop borrowers must follow the University’s policy on the Appropriate Use of Information Technology Resources (Policy 1207) and the Libraries’ Equipment Loan Policy.
