Request Streaming Video Content for Your Canvas Course
Instructors have many options for using media in their courses. For a full list of options, please review our Instructional Use of Media Collections page. JMU instructors may use this form to request that JMU Libraries staff:
- Investigate the acquisition of a license for a streaming video that is not currently in the Libraries’ collections of streaming videos
- Digitize physical videos (DVD or VHS) that are already in the Libraries’ collections
- Create short clips of videos for use in your Canvas course
- Request stable access to leased content
Please contact us as early as possible when planning a course that includes digital media. We must navigate licensing options that comply with the TEACH Act parameters for providing copyrighted media to students in Canvas. What to expect after submitting this form:
- You will get an initial response within 1-2 business days
- We will consult with you and research options
- You will receive updates on the status of your request
We will investigate the availability of streaming licenses before considering the digitization of a physical format. We cannot guarantee a timeline for completing this work since it can take a few weeks or several months to negotiate a streaming license. Some requests may not be able to be fulfilled at all due to copyright and fair use requirements. We will work with you to find solutions.
