Mutant Symphonies: Art Exhibit in the Music Library

Posted October 27, 2021 in Exhibits

View the Libraries’ newest art exhibit in The little Gallery Underground, located in the Music Library (basement of the Music Building), until December 10.

The exhibit, Mutant Symphonies, features drawings by JMU students studying with Mallory Burrell.

This collection of drawings was inspired by a range of musical instruments and created using a surrealist drawing technique called Cadavre Exquis, or Exquisite Corpse drawing. Student artists drew on sections of a piece of paper and folded each section under, before passing the drawing to the next artist. Using this technique, the artists found inventive ways to create drawings of new musical objects.

The opening event for this exhibit will be on November 5, from 5 to 7pm. All are welcome at this event! The JMU Music Library is in the basement of the Music Building, which is on the JMU Quad. Free parking is available for visitors at the JMU Warsaw Parking Deck or Mason Street Parking Deck.
